The Anatomy of a Van Camper
Van campers are highly complex machines that feature many different components, systems and layouts . While you don't necessarily need to understand every detail, you will be a much happier traveler in a much higher functioning van camper if you learn as much as possible. So I will lay it all out for you!

Most Common Floor Plans
The vast majority of van camper floor plans have at least one of the following defining features:
-
a front facing sofa in the rear that converts to a bed
-
twin beds
-
a Murphy/removable bed
-
a wet bath that spans the entire rear
-
a larger refrigerator raised above floor level

Pop Top Sleepers
A pop top sleeper can revolutionize the limited space inside a van camper. It's literally like having a tent on the roof! But like everything with RVs, there are important trade offs to consider.

Electrical Systems
Arguably the most important -- and definitely the most complicated -- system in a van camper, the electrical system comprises everything from solar panels to batteries to outlets to alternator charging. And fuses. And control panels. Etc. I provide a deep dive into this critical system and help you determine the pros and cons of lithium batteries vs. AGM among many other topics.

Keeping Cool in a Metal Box
Most van campers come with a rooftop air conditioner, but keeping cool in hot weather -- especially direct sunlight -- can still be tricky when you're in a metal box with windows. I will explain the many tips and tricks campers use to stay cool and minimize air conditioner use (they're very loud).

Keeping Warm in a Metal Box
Keeping warm in cold weather camping tends to be simpler than keeping cool in hot weather, but there are still tips and tricks to share.

The Water System
Hot water systems, showering, freshwater tanks, water filtration, winterizing and even how to use you van in freezing temperatures...it's all in this important section about a van camper's water system.

The Waste System
This is no one's favorite topic. But if you want a home on wheels, you will need to manage gray water waste from the sink and shower and black water waste from the toilet. I will lay it all out for you, including a full discussion of the cassette toilet vs. black tank debate that people get so heated about!

Kitchen, Cabinetry & Storage
Every inch inside a van camper matters, so upfitters work hard to build clever storage solutions in every nook and cranny. But nothing changes the fact that you're working with a cargo van, so storage and kitchen space will be limited. I will walk you through the various kitchen and storage options that are most common in van campers.

Accessories
Most van campers come with a handful of things that defy categorization, so I will throw them all into the "accessories" bucket. This includes bug screens, window coverings, tables, etc.
